Simple Golf Swing Review - How To Increase Golf Swing Speed

If a simple golf swing review doesn't address golf swing speed, then it doesn't cover as much about the golf swing as it should. Increasing golf swing speed is the only way to hit the ball further. It's simple physics. Of course you can gain more distance by hitting the ball more solid and more square, but if you don't swing the club with enough velocity in the first place, you won't be pounding drives out there like we all dream about. Here are some things to try to help you swing the club faster..

1. Gear down. I know this seems totally counterintuitive but try to swing the club only 80% as hard as you usually do. I know, you're thinking how are you supposed to swing harder by swinging less hard. Well, that's kind of the secret to easy power. It will feel like you're swinging less hard, but the speed of your club head at impact will be greater.

The reason that this works is that often trying to swing too hard causes improper mechanics. And without the chain of events in your swing taking place in the proper order, it will be impossible to swing the club as fast as you are actually capable of doing so.

2. No Over the Top. The single biggest reason for a lack of swing speed is coming over the top. Every good simple golf swing review will tell you that. By coming over the top I mean starting the downswing with your hands or arms instead of your lower body. Turning your lower body first like you're supposed to will create a source of potential energy that can be unleashed at impact when you release your hands.

If you make this error chances are it's pretty well ingrained, and making a change will feel very strange. What a proper swing should feel like is like your hands rest for a split second at the top of your backswing. You need this hesitation to give your lower body time to get started

3. Stay Loose. This is probably the most important tip. Any kind of tension if your body during your swing will suck power out of your shots. Think of it like the difference between cracking a whip and swinging a stiff board. The tip of the whip travels much faster than the end of the board ever could, because the whip itself is not stiff.

Gripping the club too hard is the worst thing you can do if you're trying to hit longer drives. You need your wrists to be loose so they can be rolled over at impact. If you are gripping the club so hard that you can't release the club head properly, then you are leaving a lot of yards in the bag. Breathing properly and waggling the club before you make a swing are a couple of good ways to get rid of the power sucking tension.
